The shape will be familiar to anyone who knows the Barbour Bedale. The short hunting-jacket cut, raglan sleeves, storm-flap front and generous bellows pockets all come from the same practical British outerwear tradition. Here, that familiar pattern is recast in heavyweight 11-wale cotton corduroy.

Changing the cloth gives the jacket a different character. The corduroy is substantial but remarkably soft, with a full cotton plaid lining that makes it comfortable from the first wear. It trades the weather protection of waxed cotton for softness, texture and a more relaxed everyday feel.

It is worth being clear about that trade-off. This is not a weather-resistant equivalent to a waxed Bedale and will not offer anything close to the same resistance to rain or wind.
